MONTGOMERY, Ala. Destin Energy has recently completed agreements to supply low emissions equipment and renewable raw materials for Dixie Pellets, the world's largest wood fuel pellet plant under construction near Selma, Ala., which is scheduled to begin production later this year. The facility will ship wood fuel pellets primarily to the European Union, where regulations to cut fossil fuel usage are requiring power producers to purchase renewable fuel resources.

          Destin Energy is delivering 10 custom-built wood gasifiers to Dixie Pellets. Destin Energy's gasification technology provides a more thorough, lower temperature burn using a variety of wood-based fuels with moisture contents up to 60%. The system also produces lower emissions than traditional wood-fueled boiler systems, providing additional environmental benefits. The gasifiers are being produced at Destin Energy's new manufacturing facility in Alabaster, Ala.

          The Dixie Pellets facility will utilize multiple renewable woody material, including chips, shavings and sawdust from a variety of sources. Destin Energy is also a key raw materials supplier for the fuel pellet plant, providing up to 100,000 tons of woody material from a biomass production facility in Montgomery, Ala. The Destin Energy biomass facility will consume pallets, crates and other wood waste that would otherwise be landfilled, delivering more environmental benefits to the local community.
